Well, this X-men theme article will be quite technical in nature and I will do my best to help those who are not so tech-savvy. But you still do need to know some of the basic computer jargons that I am using.

Anyway back to what I am about to discuss is that you may have heard about people talking about it or maybe not. No worries, I will be here to discuss about what exactly is a X-men theme.

For Mac users, I apologize that this article is actually based on a Window XP Professional Service Pack 2 system. But wait � You may pick up some tips along the way so do not shoot this article down so fast by thinking that you will not gain anything.

Based on my own experience, when most people talk about X-men theme they are most likely referring to desktop themes. What is a desktop? A desktop is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that contains icons, folders and so on - click on this link to view a sample desktop theme.

Your desktop probably does not look like the sample desktop above, but do you know that you can customize everything from an icon to a dialog box and much more.

I will be discussing more about downloading and using X-men themes and just slightly mention screensavers. Anyway, I will talk more about X-men screensavers in my next article and so keep a look out.

Obviously, there is a lot more ways to customize your desktop; however, I think I will just show you one for now. Now, you can now customize your own desktop not only for X-men but also for most other themes as well.

Of course, it must be a file with an extension of ".theme". I really hope you will enjoy learning as much as I enjoyed writing this down.

I have managed to find some great X-men themes that you can use as your desktop theme. Firstly, before you do anything you regret please save your current desktop theme, so that you could change back easily if you do not like the themes I have provided - click here to view instructions for saving current desktop theme.

Secondly, please make sure that you also downloaded the pre-requisite program above. Why? Well, you will need it to unzip each X-men theme that is provided below - click here to view pre-requisite program to download.

Lastly, please download UX Theme Multi-Patcher file and follow the instructions on that page - click here to download UX Theme Multi-Patcher.

This is to make sure that installation of the X-men theme goes smoothly and without any hiccups. I have installed this patch on my computer and my computer is still working fine.

Below are some themes that I have found and the owners were very kind to allow me to share them with you.

Currently, my web server does not accept ".zip" files. Therefore, PLEASE download and change the extension of the file - click here to learn how to change extension of file.

Please do not delete the X-men theme folder you just unzipped, otherwise you may face an error message because the ".theme" file cannot be found. Instructions:

1. Unzip the X-men theme file using Winzip to this recommended location (if you know what you are doing go ahead and install it elsewhere), "c:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes\".
2. Right-click on your desktop
3. Select Properties
4. A Display Properties dialog box will appear.
5. Select the themes tab above.
6. Click on the pull-down menu.
7. Select Browse
8. Go to the location which you have unzipped the file to, which is "c:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes\".
9. Select "XBad0800.theme/XGood0800.theme" file if your resolution is 800 x 600, otherwise select "XBad1024.theme/ XGood1024.theme" if resolution is 1024 x 768.
10. Click Open
11. Click Apply and wait for the X-men theme to be applied.
12. Click Ok and it's done.

Usually, when you download a X-men theme a screensaver is usually included as well. So if you wish to install the screensaver of these 2 themes:

Instructions:

1. Go to "c:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes\X-Men Movie\Bad" or "c:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes\X-Men Movie\Good" provided you unzip the 2 files earlier into the recommended location.
2. Double-click on "Setup X-Men Movie Bad SS.exe" or "Setup X-Men Movie Good SS.exe"
3. Click Yes
4. Click Ok
5. Installation Complete dialog box appears.
6. Click Ok
7. Click Ok
8. Click Ok again and the screensaver is set.
9. For more information, you can read the "X-Men Movie Bad Read-Me.txt" or "X-Men Movie Good Read-Me.txt" file at "c:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes\X-Men Movie\Bad" or "c:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes\X-Men Movie\Good" respectively.

K-man has done many different X-men themes on his website and instructions are mostly similar. I have used "FILENAME.theme" as a generic name so that the instructions can be used for each X-men theme done by him.

Most of the files that I have uploaded here are zipped up in a zip file, which means you need a program to unzip it and I recommend using Winzip - click here to download Winzip. However, you can only try this program for a trial period before you must start paying.

Before doing the modifications, PLEASE make a backup copy just in case anything should happen. I have tested each X-men theme on my computer before introducing them to you; however, you are doing this in your own risk. My best advice is to follow the instructions carefully and faithfully.

Instructions:

1. Right-click on your desktop
2. Select Properties
3. A Display Properties dialog box will pop up.
4. Click Save As
5. Decide where you would like to store the file.
6. Select Save

Instructions:

1. On the Tools menu in My Computer or Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
2. Click the View tab.
3. Click Apply
4. Click Ok
5. Right-click on downloaded file
6. Select Rename
7. Change "txt" to "zip" instead

9. Click Yes and file extension has been changed.
